Look out across the lake.
Not to the far shore;
roads and walls that make

the manageable fragments of hills
have little to do
with what’s reflected in the shrill

water about these stones.
Reach out beyond
the conifer plantations,

sail-boats and unexpected rain;
the human presence here
is large, beyond imagining.
