Maria Rose Dominic - Broken String
17 Views • Nov 10, 2014
Description
That flame was still dancing, when it went out.
That life is no longer mine,
And never again can it be mine…
Like the string that snapped,
Freeing the balloon that soared high,
Hurting the boy’s delightful pride,
Like the string that fell apart,
Scattering the chattering beads around,
Forming beads in the girl’s eyes,
Like the string that broke,
Wiping the violin’s magic off,
Its music forever lost…
The core of my life broke,
And its part ran a diverging course,
But without returning my heart,
Which I can hear, still beating,
Now beyond claim, beyond reach…
Yet it remains, never out of sight
Making memories hum the tune of my past,
Only to evoke in me, the pain from a mirage,
An urge to go back, to return,
To hold on to what had been mine.
For painful this is,
The suspense of an unfinished story,
Which God left off in the middle,
Now too late to be finished…
The truth before me I see,
And accept, as time passes by.
But at times I can’t help wishing
That the string had never been broken,
As I hear from a broken heart
An overwhelming longing to go back,
Just to know, at least once,
What it’d have been like…
