Margaret Alice - Lovable William Topaz McGonagall

A Wonderful Beginning for Today:

Reading the Gem of the Day and finding comfort
in the rhythms of Mr McGonagall - his total dedication
his absolute faith in his special mission colours
every word he has written - though not lyrical poetry
more like rhythmic prose from Planet McGonagall

The complete lack of subtle sadism and cynical superiority
changes his words into chronicles so unique -
he chronicled the events of his age in a historical rhyme
and the world is listening in awe
totally unable to comprehend why they are so enthralled
by the unlyrical verse of lovable Mr McGonagall

Since its first publication McGonagall’s work
has never been out of print
and I have discovered the secret: It is because
he did not write poetry - he couldn’t - he wrote
words of simple, honest morality -
with the homespun goodness of an old-fashioned moralist

- and I love it!
