Marc Jacobs awards "Designer for Tomorrow"

As Louis Vuitton's creative director, Marc Jacobs already has a very busy schedule, but the designer has found time to do his bit for future talent, by lending his name to project "Designer for Tomorrow" at Berlin Fashion Week.

Jacobs has been involved with the project since 2011.

He is on the judging panel and had also taken time out to offer advice to the young designers during the selection process.

After limiting down the shortlist to five finalists, it was Leandro Cano from Spain who convinced the jury.

"Many many thanks, I am so touched I cannot even express in words what I feel right now. Many thanks for this chance, I will use it."

The initiative also gives young designers the chance to present their collections at fashion week.

This year's creations ranged from Ramil Makinano's colourful designs to Laura Williams' playful range, a menswear collection by Siddharta Anselm Meyer to more sophisticated outfits by Camilla Salgaard Nielsen.

Cano, who is from Seville says he put all his dreams into this collection:

"How would a new Andalusia be, a new language of fashion from Andalusia? My home country, the olive trees, my childhood, all those are dreams I had all my life. And I tried realising them in this collection."

And while there can only be one winner, the event could well mark an important stepping stone in each of these designers' careers.
