Mantis Devours Butterfly

Brittney O’Shinski noticed a mantis in her garden in August, yet couldn’t see him a day later. Instead, her and her friend saw a black swallowtail butterfly. Suddenly the mantis appeared as if from nowhere, flew into the butterfly and the pair hit the ground together with force. This great nature recording shows, as Brittney describes, “the carnage that ensued directly afterwards”, with the mantis ‘eating’ the butterfly. Credit: Brittney O’Shinski
