Mandela comes home
Description
Vehicles pull into his Nelson Mandela's driveway in Johannesburg.
They drive in just as South Africa's President issues an official statement on Sunday, saying Mandela's doctors have discharged him after finding nothing seriously wrong.
The 93-year old former South African President was hospitalized with chronic pain on Saturday. A spokesman for his African National Congress says he is home now.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) ANC SPOKESPERSON, KEITH KHOZA, SAYING:
"His admission was not life-threatening. It was a diagnostic exercise that they wanted to carry out to determine what's causing the abdominal complains and he has been discharged he's now resting at home."
Among the many well-wishers was this three-year-old boy.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) YUSUF AWBA, THREE-YEAR-OLD BOY, SAYING:
"I gave flowers to Mandela and love to South Africa"
Incarcerated for 27 years by South Africa's apartheid government, Mandela became the country's first black president when all-race elections were held in 1994.
He has been in poor health since being hospitalised a year ago with respiratory problems.
