Man Punching Himself Caught On Jail CCTV

Eugene, OR - A California man, who claimed detectives assaulted him during an interview in a holding cell in the Lane County Courthouse last month, has been found guilty of attempted coercion and initiating a false report after surveillance video in the holding cell showed the man punching himself in the face numerous times.

Aleksander Robin Tomas­zewski, 33, was being held in the jail on charges that included stalking and first-degree sexual abuse, according to jail records, when he told deputies that detectives had assaulted him during an interview.

He also allegedly told authorities repeatedly that he wanted to press charges for the alleged assault. He had multiple facial injuries, deputies said.

The complaint was forwarded to a sergeant in charge of detectives, who reviewed the video footage from the holding cell and the interview room, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. Carrie Carver said. The only assault captured on camera was in the holding cell where Tomaszewski was seen hitting himself, Carver said.

In the video, Tomaszewski can be seen pacing back and forth in the cell. In a four-­minute clip, he appears to strike himself in the face 45 times.

When Tomaszewski was told the self-beating incident had been captured on camera, he allegedly confessed to making up the story with hopes of winning early release from jail, deputies said.

For the attempted coercion, Tomaszewski was sentenced Feb. 11 to 20 days in jail, 36 months of probation and a $500 fine. For initiating a false report, he received a $100 fine and 20 additional days in jail.
