Description

Couplets of Kabir
The wandering fakir,
Full of spiritual fervour
and universal appeal.

What about Shakespeare?
Wisdom so rare,
With ingenuity, celebrates,
Universal truth and beauty
In his works and sonnets.

Have you read
Auguries of Innocence
By William Blake?
Just four opening lines…
Sum up life’s essence.

A short poem—epigram
What a clever twist at the end...
Coleridge rightly extolled:
Its body brevity,
And wit, its soul.

These great minds,
So concise
Profound and precise,
Hit the bull’s eye.

Espoused truths
In a language
Even the uninitiated
Could grasp

And be held
In captivity
By their simplicity,
For life.

Rules are meant to be bent
So I have used a cliché,
And called my poem -
Old is gold.
It best sums up,
What had to be told.

Dedicated to Raj Nandy
