Magnetic Storm (planetary pole reversal) [Equinox]

Geomagnetic Reversal. I think this is an Equinox Special. Really interesting, and scary stuff.

Magnetic minerals in volcanic rocks show Earth's magnetic field flowed in the opposite direction 780,000 years ago, that every several hundred thousand years it periodically reverses polarity, and that we are long overdue a flip. Measurements of ceramic pottery show increasing fluctuation in the field strength in recent centuries, showing a decrease in strength over the last 300 years.

British Naval records of the Angle of Variation between True (geographic) and Magnetic North reveal anomalous areas of reverse flux in the South Atlantic, which have grown most over the last century, which would be an indicator a pole reversal is underway. A pole reversal begins with such reverse flux regions growing in each hemisphere, with the Earth's magnetic field growing very weak (10%?) during reversal, even changing direction daily and with multiple poles.

Needless to say this would be catastrophic for life on the planet as the field would not be able to shield us from the Solar Wind.
