Description

In the ecstacy of light
Nature reveal your palette to me
Runaway curlicews
Branching
In the random race for life

The wood pigeon sits
Serene
Does he know the privilege
of rest
Amid a thousand shades of green?

Twenty yards his territory
'I will perch and face my neighbour
Rejoice
In my smooth grey feathers and their two tone purple hints
Covering a belly the size of a melon
And sneer at the fidgety squirrel
In the next tree
Unless
he invades my space
Oh no here he comes
And I must fan out my wing tail and find
oh look
An even better place
this time in the sun
And I can admire
Deciduous metallic glintings
Drawn clear in electrified shading
And I cannot care about the rumble
of the heli rotor
And every five minutes
The buzzing of the plane on its way to Heathrow
Or the teacher
Of year 7 Spanish
Staring out of the window opposite

As her class sit so quietly
Doing their test
