Mae Sot is 5 hours by car from Bangkok, on the way you could stop off in Tak and spend the night in Sin Sooan Hotel.
If you are on a multi entry Thai visa and short of passport pages you will be happy to know that Mae Sot immigration uses a stamp and can fit 6 on a page.
