Anne and Bob, a wealthy American couple who have recently settled in Paris, prepare to host a fancy dinner to which a select list of twelve people from English, French, and American high society have been invited. But when Anne realizes that a thirteenth place is set for Steven, Bob's son from his first marriage, she panics: no way is she going to put a hex on this ritzy social event! She asks Maria, her maid, to put on a dress and to pretend to be a rich Spanish friend. Maria then finds herself sitting next to David, an art expert from the British aristocracy. Charmed by her, he contacts her the following day. It's impossible for her to reveal her true background. A romance begins, which will undermine Anne's elitist values and her marriage. Unless Anne can manage to snuff out the romance...
