Description

Her beauty lies buried beneath
Joyful moments memories of her past
Her days were splendid her nights supreme
Her children strolling on dustless streets,
Enjoying the sweet scented breeze
Brown white and black a rainbow people
They traveled from far to call her home
This prized beauty an African pearl.

But she’s lost the luster she’s lost her pride
Look what we have done to this African beauty
She shy’s away and buries her sorrow
Her children choke on littered streets
Deprived of love despised and abused
We let then listen to violent rhymes
We let them watch violent crimes
And then we question their violent ways.

It seems to me we have traded her beauty
We have sold our souls and buried our minds
We have parted ways with morality
We chose to live in filth and disgust
We have Prophets, Teachers, Preachers and Leaders,
Who deceive us, use us and abuse us
We settle for the least and expect the worst.

Abused and dejected, who shall we trust?
Who holds the key to free our minds?
Who holds us hostage who keeps us down?
So I say-wake up sleeping beauty wake up and tend to your children
The tide is calm, the flares are gone
Dry your tears stand up tall
Your children are hungry their minds are thirsty
Wake up sleeping beauty reclaim your destiny.
