M.E. Michaud - Maddi's Poem

I never realized what she meant to me,
Until today when I held her in my arms
And she gazed into my eyes
As if I was the only thing she saw.

At that moment,
I realized nothing else matters.
I gave up caring whether or not I have someone in the end;
I will always have her even if I end up alone.

She sees everything in me,
And knows nothing of my past,
She barely knows m y present.
Because of that,
She hands her life over to me.

I know of nothing of my life,
That can compare to the bond she and I share.
Is this what being an older sister is all about?
Is it having faith in the moment and not focusing on the past?
