History is relative,
Fiction polished to truth by retelling.
Heroes happen every day
By accident.
Christianity means acting like Christ, not
Waiting for him.
He was not born to die for you
But to show you how to live.

And what of politics?
Bukowski says,
“such is our politics and you can have it all.
keep it.
sail it up your -.”

I cherish Chuck
But something in me, be it patriotism, rum
Or plain stupidity of youth
Yanks upward my proverbial fist,
For these hired hands of the represented
Cannot serve what they do not know,
And they will know me somehow -
Eighteen groundhog years of rising to
“Wake up, get out, it’s a beautiful day”
Has to count for something.
