MCN's Trevor Franklin is running a 2011 KTM 990 SMT ABS as his longterm test bike this year. Here he shares his initial thoughts on the V-twin 'Supermoto Touring' motorcycle, which combines adventure touring usability with supermoto sharp handling and performance. The KTM is a completely different take on the adventure bike, contrasting with the BMW R1200GS, with the Austrian off-road firm making fun and performance as much of a priority as comfort and cruising. With a list price of £9645 the KTM is cheaper than the R1200GS and it certainly seems to be impressing Trevor with it's punchy 115bhp engine, Brembo radial brakes and WP suspension.
