Four eyes staring at each other
Across a table or across a room
Four hands clasped together
Laid in each lap

Nuckles white, holding tight
Fearful to let go
Fearful to reach out

Words unspoken, lips pressed shut
Must hold our tongue
Must not speak out

Minds filled with questions
Silent reflections
Is it hello? Or is it goodbye
Fearing both, we just stand by.
