Lokpal Bill: PM clears final Draft

Sources indicate that the PM has forwarded the draft, unchanged. The proposed Lokpal will not have any suo motu powers, but will act on cases referred to it. It may order an inquiry upon any complaint received, but cannot carry out own investigations. The lokpal will be a quasi-judicial body, having prosecution powers on cases referred to it by agencies. The CBI will remain autonomous, with prosecution powers intact. While the process of selection of Director has been tweaked, a separate bill for centralized directorate of public prosecutions will be introduced. While group C employees will be under the ambit of CVC, the lokpal may be impeached only after 100 MPs move in support of it.
