Liz Hope - Semi-Formal

My dream is a hundred dollar dress,
Perfect shoes, fancy jewelry, and you.
What I get is a fifteen dollar dress,
Practical shoes, decent jewelry, and no one.

Why does this happen every year?
It hurts more than you know.
I'll probably see you with her.
I probably just shouldn't go.

Will I ever be with anyone?
God only knows.
And since He's waiting to tell me,
I'm stuck and I have to wear pantyhose.

I will go to semi-formal,
And pretend I'm really happy.
But on the inside, deep inside,
I cry during songs that are sappy.

I hate to think life will be cruel,
And I'll never get a date.
But life often goes that way
And so I'll sit and wait.
