LinkedIn: Setting The Scene

The opening shot of any scene or sequence is important as it provides the audience with information about where what we are about to see takes place.

It doesn’t matter if the scene takes place in a boardroom, a busy street or some far off exotic land.

Establishing shots shouldn’t be ignored, nor underrated, unless you want to confuse your audience or hide the location of the action intentionally.

They provide context for all the future actions of your characters and they navigate your audience from scene to scene while drawing them into the story as it unfolds.
