Lighting up for Diwali 2018

People across India have been lighting candles and setting off fireworks in celebration of Diwali 2018. Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in Hinduism and celebrates the return of Hindu god Lord Rama after defeating Ravana, the powerful demon king. The celebration is also in honour of the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. The five-day celebration, which this year began on November 7, follows the Hindu lunar calendar.
