Libyan spirtual leader addresses the rebels

Al Jazeera obtained this video from a Libyan contact that shows an address to the nation from the spiritual and religious leader Sheikh Sadek Al-Gheriani.

"Sheikh Al-Gheriani is in hiding as the regime is oppressing his attempts to speak to the nation and legitimize this uprising," said our contact.

Here is the translation: I have been contacted by wise men of the various Tribes since the beginning of the intifada, such as the tribe of Bani Walid and Abu Saif. They inform me that the regime appears to be arming young men of these tribes. They inform me that the regime wants to reignite in them long-held feuds over land, and other issues, and the need for accountability over these tribal differences.

I want to show to the sons of a nation, the youth across the country, what is happening here now. This blessed intifada and glorious revolution is not directed against the tribes and not against our families, but rather the falsehood and the injustice wherever it exists or wherever it may occur. Wherever there is burden, whether Benghazi or Zawia or Tripoli or Sirt or the Mountains or the South, it is not a tribal war nor a war of vengeance. It is not the image that the regime will have you see, painting a picture of differences and conflict of the ancient tribes across the land. Feuds which have become obsolete over the course of forgotten generations and erased from memory. From an age of ignorance, forbidden by Islam. For Islam prescribes that brothers in faith are above all other brotherhoods and the adherence to Islam above all other loyalties.
For inciting rage and promoting ignorance is forbidden in the law of God.
For it is obligatory on the Custodians, the Elders, the Wise men and the Tribal Leaders to adhere to this law and to counsel the youth to remain wary of this treason, and obliged upon them to stand firmly opposed to this direction of falsehood. And you must disown all those who create rage and falsehood amongst you.
And this is what is now required from the leaders of our Tribes, our custodians, for if they see the wrongdoing in the use of these arms, then prevent them therein.
