However, the 18-hole golf course on Bulman Road will continue to operate for the "foreseeable future."
“Our members can continue to expect the same great experience at Shadow Ridge,” said Dan Weddell, general manager of the golf club in a city news release. “Membership, rates and amenities will remain unchanged as we transition ownership to the airport.”
The city will be seeking a new operator for the course for 2017 and beyond. The existing operator has agreed to stay for 2016 to guarantee an smooth transition.
The nearly 84-acre property was identified in the airport’s master plan for acquisition.
“The purchase of this property was exceptionally important,” said Sam Samaddar, airport director. “As we’re unable to move the airport, we need to ensure that we have the available land to support the growth of YLW for future generations.”
Funding was provided from the airport reserves, with no funding from general taxation. The city didn't say what it paid for the golf course, but latest assessment puts the land at $2.6 million and it
BC: Government Ads Use and Abuse Taxpayers’ Money
Once upon a time, a popular opposition firebrand named Christy Clark stood up in the B.C. Legislature to rip the NDP government for spending tax dollars on shameless, self-promoting advertising.
“People don't want the government to spend 700 grand of their money so they can find out how to access services; people want this government to spend their money so that those services are there for them to access. That's what British Columbians want,” Clark railed. “How many firefighters, how many police officers will not be on the street because [the Finance Minister] is spending… on her advertising campaign?”

Jason Kenney
Conservative MP Jason Kenney went on Twitter to explain why he shouted in question period that he needed an "English to English translation" to understand Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan.
Kenney, a former minister of defence, directed the heckle Monday at Sajjan as he was answering a question about the government's plan to deal with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Conservative defence critic James Bezan and associate defence critic Pierre Paul-Hus both asked questions on the Liberals' election promise to withdraw Canada's fighter jets from the U.S.-led mission in Iraq and Syria.
Bezan accused Sajjan of suggesting that Canada's allies were to blame for the spread of ISIS, referring to Sajjan's speech at an event organized by Canada 2020 on Friday.

Canadian Alcohol Consumption
Canadians aren’t drinking much more than they were a decade ago, the World Health Organization says, but are consuming more litres per person than the global average.
In its “Global status report on alcohol and health 2014,” the WHO noted that each person in the world over the age of 15 drinks 6.2 litres of pure alcohol every year.
In Canada, alcohol consumption per capita has remained fairly steady over the past 10 years, the report found.
