Description

"Laputan Machine" may refer to Gulliver's Travels: Laputa (Spanish for "the whore" which was probably no coincidence) is a flying island whose residents value intelligence and astronomy to such a degree that every other aspect of life--food, clothing, agriculture--has suffered. Thus, a Laputan machine is one that suffers from vast overspecialization. However, it may also refer to Miyzaki's Laputa: City in the Sky, which features a sad, partially maimed and broken robot who is nevertheless frighteningly dangerous when roused.

And if you're left wondering which reference is the real one, just think back to today's Corner and remember that the answer is and will always be, "Yes."

Additional music is "Suite For Solo Marimba: I. Mist" composed by Alfred J. Fissinger and "Arrival of the Birds/Exodus" from The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos soundtrack as performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
