Leon Spinks had an amateur record of 178–7 with 133 KOs. His finest achievement was to win the light heavyweight gold at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Spinks turned pro in January 1977, stopping Bob Smith in the fifth round. He travelled to Liverpool for his second pro bout.
Peter Freeman turned pro in 1972. His best result was winning the central area title by knocking out Roger Tighe. Freeman was a late replacement for Eddie Fenton, who had beaten him on points in 1975. Freeman had a record of 13-9 with 10 KOs.
