superior,
a fixed expression
on her unresourceful face,
everything to be done
by the book.

unaware of rumours
surrounding her and the CEO -
lies, of course,
they must be;
even if true,
to be demolished
by threatened repercussions.

the coup came
with the merger,
bringing her victory
and a reputation.

she was top dog,
top cat, top cow,
bitch - whatever:
a real human resource
where the personal personnel
had once been.

being proud,
she bullied,
taking the cue
from her master's voice,
wielding the power
over his dominions.

if pride really does
come before a fall,
it's taking
a bloody long time!
