Thursday morning's fire tragedy at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school, which killed 21 students and two teachers, brought back painful memories to Abdul Muin Abdul Manan. 28 years ago on September 22, 1989, a fire claimed the lives of 27 female students from Madrasah Taufiqiah Al-Khairiah Al-Halimiah also known as “Pondok Pak Ya” in Yan, Kedah.
Since then, the school has implemented safety features and equipment to prevent the incident from recurring.
