Lazarus
Description
This song retells the story of Lazarus through the voice of his sister Mary, drawn from the account in the Gospel of John 11:1 – 44. Grief turns to accusation, faith wrestles with despair, and the crowd gathers outside a grave that has already reeks of decay.
But the story isn’t over.
What begins as mourning becomes something far more terrifying and glorious: a command spoken into the darkness of the grave itself.
Musically, this piece leans into a dramatic metal style — part lament, part thunderous proclamation — capturing the emotional weight of the moment when death itself is challenged.
If you enjoy story-driven rock, Biblical epics, or dark narrative songs, consider subscribing for more music that explores strange tales, and historical moments, along with some lighter, whimsical pieces.

Lyrics:
My brother Lazarus fell ill
His breath grew faint, his body still
We sent for Jesus right away:
“The one You love grows weak today.”
Each fading breath we watched in dread
The shadows stretched beside his bed
We hoped the Teacher would have come
But grief arrived before the sun.
We wrapped him in the burial thread
With spice and myrrh we dressed the dead
A stone was rolled across the cave
Four days the dark became his grave.
Then word arrived: “The Lord is near.”
My sister ran with hope and fear
She met Him first upon the way
Her grief she could no longer stay.
“Lord, he’d still live if You were here;
My heart is torn with doubt and fear.”
Yet she spoke with trembling breath:
“I trust God’s power over death.”
She came to whisper soft to me:
“The Teacher calls – He asks to see”
I rose and ran through tears and cries
The crowd pursued with mourning eyes.
I fell before Him where He stood
“Lord, he’d live if You but would.”
He saw the storm our sorrow gave
And wept before my brother’s grave.
“Remove the stone,” He gave command
The crowd quaked on the shifting sand
Then thunder rolled upon His cry:
“Come forth, O Lazarus, arise!”
From out the tomb my brother came
Still wrapped in death’s pale, binding claim
“Unbind him now!” the Teacher cried
And life stood breathing at my side!
Lazarus, my brother dear!
O, Lazarus!
But the story isn’t over.
