Lawrence Beck - Marginal Utility

Two time zones away from here,
I'm told the sun is shining brightly.
That's uncommon over there.
I picture her. She's barely dressed,
A little redness to her face, upon
A blanket on a beach. She's with
Her friends, no thought of me,
And I'm two time zones in her
Future, in an omnipresent sun,
Alone and wishing I was there,
While knowing she'd feel awkward
If I was. She'd have no use for me.
I close my eyes. I dream of being
Wanted, of some use to someone
On another beach.
