Laurie hill - Awaiting Dawn

Angels lanterns shining from the velvet night time sky,
spangled from the banners held aloft,
shining in the places, where life has passed men by,
kissing grey walled cells, with its silver oh so soft.

Sparkling in the starlight is a tear about to fall,
from a man whose lost his pride, his name, his hope,
ashamed of fear he turns his tear stained face towards the wall,
for soon he knows he'll lose his life, upon the hangmans rope

The shadows creep so slowly with the passing of the moon,
and stealthy footsteps sound outside his cell,
and he knows the dawn will break, with the cock crow very soon,
when he'll start his trapdoor journey into hell...
