Black man
Proud and strong
I celebrate you
For the tenacity to survive

When undercover persecution
Is prevalent in a society
Of hypocritical policies

Racially profiled by others
Those who don’t know nor appreciate
What you have contributed to this nation
Built off the sweat of your backs

I applaud your intelligence
To see the oppressors and yet become the aggressors

You fight for a country
That does not accept you equally among the masses
Your very human rights denied
No matter how successful you become

Especially those who are not willing to sell your soul
And exchange you identity for false security……

Today, I celebrate you Black Man

And no matter how rejected, despised or feared you are

We must recognize that you are the ocean from which life flows
