Lake Tanganyika is the second-largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, and the longest. It is located in East Africa, and is bordered by four countries: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia. The lake is over 1,200 miles (1,931 km) long and up to 50 miles (80 km) wide. It has a maximum depth of 4,823 feet (1,471 m), making it the second-deepest freshwater lake in the world after Lake Baikal.
