Krishnarasa Seshadri - THE EAGLE

It was a day, dreary and dun,
Not a cloud in the blue, hiding the sun;

I see him atop a rocky sill,
Scanning the upstream of a wayside rill.

The goldish plumage gleaming in the light,
He might have been an unsung Knight;

I wonder at his austere poise,
There wasn’t a flutter, nor any noise!

In a moment’s dream, he glided onto the breeze,
Mighty wings slid, in some bored ease,

It might have been some rat or even a hare,
That ventured in his vicinity, in false hope and despair.

But what he did take remains a mystery,
For I now see him off into the vivid scenery…..
