Description

Faces turned when Ishtar walked,
And ears were alerted when she talked,
She exuded a power of conquering and vigilance! !
And an aura which lifted one from diffidence.
I adored her way of detached attachment,
And in matters of paltriness, there’d be no amendment!
This was simply Ishtar,
A sun among a myriad star-
This was my friend first,
Who taught me truly to love and trust! !
So soon did I trust and fall into line,
And saw, I saw through Ishtar’s eye not mine;
I thought her thoughts and saw her sights,
Blinded, yet seeing my long ignored lights!
She’d say yes to something, which’d be in me- no,
Then I‘d say yes too, not wanting to be foe,
I turned not a foe, but into a liar,
For at my truths, she might tire! ! !
Ishtar was perfect, with no severed ties,
I was perfect too, hidden behind my lies,
But my very self crumbled from within,
And with its suppleness lost, my soul grew thin! !
I became a killer of my own person,
And was shackled by visions of alien reason!
Yet my fondness for it grew,
And my heart it slew! !
Days took Ishtar onward and up,
And me, my happiness all usurped!
I was let to shine in false glory
Of fickleness, and of which I was sorry!
Did I covet Ishtar’s fame?
And in coveting, I made it lame?
No I was merely ensconced in her kindness,
My friendship’s gratitude feigned her likeness! !
May Ishtar and her tribe flourish and vibe,
But I am no Ishtar, nor one in her tribe,
My love for her exceeds more than my dare,
To break myself to her, I despair……..
