Why,
When motion runs cold and time stops still,
When every last feeling loses its thrill,
When music is dull, and tunes are grey,
When all love’s life is washed away,
Why do we talk, and laugh, and cry,
And where in our hearts does our love lie?

Why,
When love is lost and blood is cold,
And we’re left to bear the memories old,
When white turns black and truths are lies,
And the heart cannot feel, despite that it tries,
Why do we run, and shout, and play,
And why can’t life just go our way?

Why,
When everyone smiles, but only you frown,
Because of those words that shot you straight down,
And no one can help, and nothing is fine,
Because of the sound of that one single line,
Why do we breathe, and live, and grow,
And how can we stand feeling this low?

Why are we born, to grow and to die,
And why can’t morale,
In life,
And in love,
Stay high?
