Kerry dismisses Syrian election
Description
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Lebanon on Wednesday (June 4), where he pledged more aid to help Syria's neighbors deal with an influx of refugees.
Kerry announced more than $290 million in additional aid for U.N. agencies and non-governmental organizations working with the nearly 3 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.
Some $51 million of the funds, the largest chunk of the aid, will go to helping Lebanon, which now hosts the highest concentration of Syria's refugees as a percentage of population in the world.
The influx has burdened public services and has been a drag on the economy. Unlike some of Syria's other neighbors, Lebanon does not have formal refugee camps, leaving many families to find refuge within host communities.
Kerry also questioned the legitimacy of Syria's presidential elections.
"The elections are non-elections. The elections are a great big zero," Kerr
