Kate Terrell - Funeral Home

This poem is for all of those that I have lost. May you rest in peace.

I’ve been there many times before
But every time I enter it’s different
The mood, the people they always change
But the reason for coming is always the same
Somebody has died

You sign your name the neatest you can
To tell the mourning that you were there
To say to them that you are sorry

Walking through the open frame
You see the one
That never will live another day
Waiting in line you think
Of how to say your final goodbyes
Hoping that the prayer you send will meet the one that has just died

Then you turn and see the mourning
The family, the best friend
And try and smile just for them
“I am sorry for your loss”
Shaking hands you move on to the next person
Until you make it to the very end

That is when you realize
That any day can be the day that people are mourning your life
To yourself you ponder will these be the people who come to my wake
Will there be more
Or less

With each day that comes we must do our best
For we will never no when we lay down for our final rest
