Karl Lagerfeld turns 80

Karl Lagerfeld, the Kaiser of fashion turns 80.

The eccentric designer known for his slick silver ponytail, black shades and wardrobe was born on September 10, 1933, in Hamburg, Germany.

His fashionable creations have wowed the world since the mid-1960's when he started designing for Italian fashion house Fendi.

He then moved to Chloé in the mid-1970s, and has been at the helm of French fashion label Chanel since 1983.

While known for his sleek, classic, yet modern designs, Lagerfeld is also occasionally in the press for his controversial remarks.

In 2012, he caused instant fury in the UK when he called British diva Adele "a little too fat" during an interview with a French newspaper.

He later apologized in a statement.

It's unknown where the fashion giant will celebrate his 80th birthday, but it's sure to be done in style.
