karin collins - My Ugly Shell
4 Views • Nov 07, 2014
Description
The way I look inside.
Instead they judge this outer shell,
Where I safely hide.
Not long ago, not far away,
My shell was pretty too.
My hair was long and lovely,
My eyes a sparkling blue.
But life is strange and often cruel,
It changes on a dime.
And we are left to live the hand,
We’re dealt for all of time.
So now I sit here all alone,
The world just passes by.
The souls that once adored me,
Merely laugh and sigh.
No one seems to take the time,
To see that I’m still me.
Just because my shell has changed,
There’s so much more to see.
My heart still sings and dances,
My thoughts are still my own.
But all I get are side long glances,
Despite my gentle tone.
So to the world that thinks they’re great,
And banishes me to hell,
You’re missing the best part of me,
Despite my ugly shell.
