Description
Months after the rapper made controversial comments about slavery, calling it a “choice,” Kanye West is apologizing for his offensive words. The “Ghost Town” rapper broke down in tears on Chicago’s WGCI 107.5, saying that he was “sorry” for “hurting” his fans. He also blamed his “downfall” on his friend Don C “not being around.”
“From my point of view, and this could be a selfish point of view,” the host of the show said, “I always want you to speak for black people.” That’s when Kanye launched into his apology.
“I don’t know if I properly apologized for how that slave comment made people feel,” Kanye said. “So, I want to take this moment right now to say that I’m sorry for hurting — I’m sorry for the one/two effect of the MAGA hat into the slave comment, and I’m sorry for people who felt let down by that moment and also I appreciate you guys giving me the opportunity to talk to you about the way I was thinking and what I was going through. I just appreciate you guys holding onto me as a family.”
He went on to describe the rant as a result of his bipolar disorder and also blamed his friend Don C, a Chicago-based clothing designer and part of Kanye’s entourage, for not stepping in to stop him. That’s when the rapper broke down into tears.
“I believe that the downfall of Kanye West is directly related to Don C not being around,” Kanye said through tears. “Don is actually… He’s actually in town right now because I just told him I need him. To be there for me, so shit like this doesn’t happen to me.”
