Kalymnos Easter Dynamites 2010

The well known custom, famous, some people might say, is the Easter Sunday dynamite launching from the top of the mountain, overlooking the island's capital, Pothia.
This spectacular custom, has been going on for decades. Well organized groups of islanders, launch dynamite, exploding in the air. The average packet launched is around 5 kilos of explosive! The explosive matter comes from WWII sea mines, land mines, torpedoes and other explosive devices, scattered or drifting around the Aegean Sea. The actual explosive waves are so strong that they set off car & building alarms, a long way down below, all around the island's capital! In this year's footage, you can all enjoy this EXPLOSIVE custom. Please note, the volume of the sound of the volleys of explosions, is really amazing!
