Kahani Pakistani - ISNA: Something for Everyone
Description
Ayesha Gilani continues her coverage of ISNA's (Islamic Society of North America's) 51st annual conference held in Detroit, Michigan. Some of the world’s most influential scholars are presenting their ideas to further the Muslim American population in the social, cultural, and political spheres. Many global issues addressing all peoples and schools of thought are being discussed at the conference.
The show begins with an interview with one of the world’s most influential Muslim scholars, Imam Zaid Shakir. Ayesha also speaks with female Muslim scholar and former president of ISNA, Dr. Ingrid Mattson, whom Ayesha meets at the “Women Scholars and the Question of Religious Authority” session that examines the role of women in Islam. Ayesha continues to the session entitled, “All from Adam and Hawa: Addressing Intra-Muslim Racism,” which tries to tackle a global issue that the ethnically diverse Islamic religion is no stranger to.
The show ends with insight and advice from local Muslim leaders who want to repeat the Muslim American legacy of contribution to Detroit; hear of their aspirations to recover from the recession and rebuild the city by sitting in at the “Healing Detroit: A Panel Discussion on the Muslim Contribution to Building Back a Great City."
