ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: Joseph Kabila was sworn in on Tuesday (December 20) to a new term as president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, after winning an election in the central African state that was marred by violence and allegations of fraud.
Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe attended Kabila's inauguration by the banks of the Congo River, along with ministers from other African countries, and ambassadors from the United States, France and the United Kingdom.
The November 28 poll marked the second presidential contest since a 1998-2003 war that killed more than five million people, and was seen as key to shoring up stability. But the vote was marred by deadly clashes between opposition supporters and security forces, allegations of rigging, and criticism from observer missions over poll irregularities.
