K. Jared Hosein - (War) Yellow

D-Day,
Bomb screams,
Sky grey,
Rain gleams,
Boats on the roar,
Hugging my gun,
Vomit on the floor,
Shadow of the sun.

A shingly shore,
Leap into water,
My little core.
My little daughter.
I crawl through sand,
Dodging bullet barrage,
Fusillade at hand,
My failing marriage.

Bombs begin to fly,
Grenades explode,
My throat goes dry,
And my eyes erode.
A dead man trail,
To hide in fear,
Wait 'til we prevail,
Come out and cheer.

The noises cease,
I can hear the waves.
I can hear the peace
And soldiers' raves.
Then we all mellow,
Sanctuary's near,
I may be yellow
But hell, I am here!
