Jumping off the cliff...

Sonia McDonald from LeadershipHQ and full time single mum launches her first video blog on how she jumped off the cliff into starting her own successful business. Watch some key tips around Leadership and Strategy!

Hi my name is Sonia and I'm the Director of LeadershipHQ. Welcome and thank you for listening to our first video blog. Today, I'm really going to be focusing on what my blogs are going to be about, and what I'm going to be sharing with you over the next few months. LeadershipHQ actually was born from a blog itself. I used to write a lot about leadership and strategy.

So for past 20 years I've been working in the HR space in particular organizational development, learning and development, talent management and strategy. And over the past decade, I have had a particular passion around leadership and strategy. So I've decided to start a blog called LeadershipHQ. It was from there that I found that people following my blog which was really exciting and people in the industry, my peers, associates, friends was saying, "Sonia, why don't you start a company?" And I thought to myself, "Hang on a second, you know, single mum, that's pretty scary starting your own company."

So I stood on a cliff for about a year kind of contemplating what I was going to do, and then I decided to jump off that cliff and start LeadershipHQ as a company. And believe me if I can do it, you can do it. So I'm going to be sharing some tips with you in particular over the next few months on how and about that as well as some of my passions around leadership strategy, talent management, teams, motivation, neuroscience, strengths based leadership, coaching, mentoring, how to build high performance teams, change.

If there's anything in particular that you would really like to listen to please reach out to me because I'd love to hear some of your thoughts and insights, because I'm very much about sharing knowledge and sharing insights to build leadership confidence and capability. So if there's one thing that I'd love to kind of leave you with today in terms of what made a difference in me actually jumping off that cliff and taking LeadershipHQ from a blog into an actual company was the people around me.

In particular I had a coach and I had a mentor. And if there's one tip that I would recommend if you're starting to think about doing anything like this or you're looking at a change in your career or you're wanting to advance your career in some way or start a business, is get out there and find a coach, get out there and find a mentor. I was really blessed, I actually had a coach and a mentor find me and to this day they have made the biggest difference in terms of the work that I do and also serving my purpose in making a difference.
