Julie Neises - By Invitation Only

So lucky to recieve cause
for recognition and applause.
I couldn't budge from my seat.
The competition was hard to beat.
The room went silent after every name.
The blood ran cold in my veins.
One of the only freshmen there,
juniors and seniors began to stare.
My whole life I've come in last,
it was time to forget my past.
The last scholarship was near at hand,
I felt to nauseous just to stand.
The last few names were called up then,
and then I realized- I was the only one not to win.
