Description

Dreamily gazing towards the west I sit,
Watching the last remnants of defused light,
Slowly dematerialize, far off on the horizon.

Slowly twilight is turning into night,
The breeze is nil, darkness descends.
No moon tonight, only the stars shine in heaven.

Flapping haphazardly in crazy twists and turns,
The nightwings appear, searching for their evening meals.
Leathery wings jerking to and fro.

Diving and halting in mid air, aerial daredevils,
On the breeze, ridding the Earth of six legged creatures,
Unlucky enough to get in their way.

Radar, or is it sonar equipped, they unconventionally,
Fly here and there, wherever their ping, pings lead them.
They put birds to shame.

Beautiful flight, soundless, avenging angels,
Or is it fallen angels in the shape of miniature gargoyles,
Whatever they are, they rule the night, the bats.
