I wish that I could write to you.
And ask you many things
For I'm sure if you did write back
You'd say what this life brings.

You'd tell me what it's all about.
And why much evil dwells
You would explain life's plan to me
And what your love compels

I try to make you proud of me,
But sometimes that is hard
For I am but a simple man
Though I'm known as a bard.

We need you to come here on earth,
For we have gone astray
Tomorrow may be much too late,
We need you here today
