Description
I don't know who will blink first, the ocean or the
sky,
I don't know if the wind will ever grow weary of
drifting,
Or if the tree's will exhaust themselves in their
clinging to the earth,
Or if the earth will exhaust itself in it's clinging
to the universe,
I don't know if the sun will see a bright light before
it dies,
Or the last thought of a raindrop before it falls,
Or why distance makes the heart grow fonder,
Or why tragedy brings people together, and religion
tears them a part,
I don't believe in Christianity or in Capitalism,
I don't believe in Socialism or Communism,
Or in any of Man's machinery,
I believe in the earth,
I believe in the stars,
In a restaurant kitchen washing dishes with a man from
Oaxaca;
I hear the poetry in the voice inside his voice, and I
see the anguish in his eye's,
He rides the bus from East to West to work like the
Sun,
He has learned the tongue of one conqueror,
And is impeded by the tongue of another,
And still he walks with dignity and pride,
In another world he might have been a Warrior, a
Curandero, a Holy man,
But in this world he is a dishwasher,
I swear, if I didn't know I had limitations I would
fly.
