Description

I knitted a hat
only the finest of thread would do,
each stitch conceived with careful compassion
each row birthed in beautiful bliss

It was my crown
the tightly pulled stitches my jewels
worn with the dignity and grace of a queen
I, myself, me had created something good.

The cold hands of the wind
could not penetrate through
the mail I hade created
with simple knitting needles

it pulled and pushed and pursued however,
and sadly
so tragically
it eventually won.

He caressed my brilliant hat
and together they traveled across the fields.
they saw sunrises and sunsets
and battled bravely against the crows

Pretty soon my dear hat,
made with only the finest of thread
said its goodbyes to the ornery wind-
and came to rest in a dusty field

There a poor family of mice
maybe four, maybe five
chilled by the coming frost
made a nice little home in my hat.

And although I made the hat
to keep my ears warm
she hugs a sweet little family
in that dusty far away field
